BBC Micro Music Demos

Using the great BeebEm I have captured and uploaded videos of all the music demos on YouTube.

Ray Parker Jr. - Ghostbusters

The first music demo I created, widely shared at the time of release on bulletin borads and by floppy disc.

Gary Numan - Cars

The graphics were based on my dad's Princess at the time.

Depeche Mode - New Life

The second program that used syncronised lyrics.

Doctor Who

The video is apparently very popular on YouTube.

Kraftwerk - The Model

Uses the noise channel for the rhythm, with graphics based in the single cover.

Space - Magic Fly

Another demo with drawn graphics from a spooled file.

Duran Duran - View to a Kill

Includes some animation based on the beginning titles.

Fiat Lux - Secrets

One of my favourite tracks by this little known group.

OMD - Electricity

The first of my OMD covers, using flashing colours.

Yazoo - Only You

The first of my Yazoo covers, uses the spooling method to draw the graphics.

One of the channels was combined with the noise channel to create a bass sound.

Eastenders Theme

The standard theme for the popular british soap and not based on the single released by Anita Dobson in 1986.

Captain Scarlet Theme

I loved this Gerry Anderson show and once had a section dedicated to it on this website.

Joe 90 Theme

Another Gerry Anderson childhood favourite which I also made a general midi of with much better instrumentation.

Mission Impossible Theme

It has a bit of animation and preceeds the film franchise by ten years.

Blue Peter Theme

The popular Mike Oldfield version of the the Blue Peter Theme severely stripped down to fit within the three music and noise channel.

BBC World Cup Theme

The World Cup theme for Mexico 86 was called White Lightning and I only watched the coverage for the theme music.

A Brief History of my Music Demos

Here is a short video about my BBC Micro Music Demos, which I made in the mid 80s. It gives a breakdown of the Ghostbusters program and shows some of the techniques used in other demos.

BBC Micro - Computer Dreams

Before I made my first music demo for the BBC Microcomputer (Ghostbusters) and when the company was called Core Software (later Byte The Apple) I made this, a lyric singalong for Together in Electric Dreams.
