Soundfonts

Each link points to a zip archive file which contains an SF2 font, a midi file to demonstrate the font and details about the file. I've split the fonts onto separate pages to reduce the download time and the download file size refers to the zip file not the size of the SoundFont (which will usually be a bit bigger).

A remix of the Bee Gees track, this features several loops and drums from the remix and the 1977 original. The quality of the samples had to be reduced to decrease the Soundfont size from 4Mb to 2Mb.

Based on the 1991 dance track by Moby, it features the string and piano intro from the Twin Peaks theme. The font contains several vocal samples, drumloops, bass drum and synth loops.

Yamaha DX9 Synthesizer

This font contains 11 basic sounds from Yamaha DX9 synthesizer. This was the smaller brother to famous DX7 synth that was a breakthrough for FM synthesis in the 1980's. It features basses, brass, flute, guitars, bells and organs. There arefour midi files that have been adapted to highlight the new instruments.

Beats International - Dub Be Good To Me

Beats International - Dub Be Good To Me (Vocals)

This font contains the vocal samples, and should be used in bank 2, with the above font in bank 1. You will need approximately 4Mb of RAM on you card (both files come to around 3.5Mb) and the archive contains an amended midi file. The original version of the font was 2.5Mb in size, so I reduced the sample rate to make the file smaller.

T.I.M. - The Gate Effect

This song is based on a demo midi file from the MasterBits sample collection page. The 'Gate Effect' is achieved by playing a long note, and quickly changing the control 7 volume command to break the sound into a stabbing rhythm.I added a couple of drum loops and odd noises on top with a few chord changes, and came up with this tune.

This song is taken from the first track of a compilation album called 'Best of Acid Jazz' and I think the track is based on another jazz song. It contains a couple of loops and a few instruments from the 2Mb GS SoundFont that is currently available.I put both sets of sounds in one font to make it easier to load and to reduce the amount of memory needed.

Visage - Moon Over Moscow

This soundfont is adapted from my original general midi file of the eighth track from the Visage album. It contains a drum set and a couple of synth sounds, but I couldn't quite squeeze it into 512k of RAM (it takes 578k). The midi file has an extra bass line and separate tracks for the drum parts. There was a tuning problem with the original midi file included. If you have downloaded this file before 21/11/97, download this midi file MOSCOW3.MID. The midi file in the archive on this page has been corrected.
